Yannick was born in Düsseldorf in 2003 and resides in Mettmann since birth, a small town of 40.000 souls near Düsseldorf.
His amateur radio journey started at the age of 12, where he first came in contact with amateur radio on M/V Cap San Diego (DL0MFH) in 2016. He then joined Mettmann’s local DARC club and got more involved in the hobby. In the same year, only 6 months later, he passed his exam and got the callsign DO1YH. Two years later, he upgraded his license, got the call DK1YH and started learning CW with the most dedicated help of Diethelm (DJ2YE, sk), where it was his most humble honor to be one of the last operators to receive their CW training by Diethelm before his passing. He is also licensed in Belgium (ON1YH) and in the United States (WY2H, Amateur Extra). Yannick is fluent in German, English and French.
Yannick was part of many YOTA activities in 2019, including YOTA subregional camp in Baunatal, Germany and Oosterhout, The Netherlands and is a member of AGCW e.V. (#4284), the ARRL, DARC, GDXF (#1148), and MF-Runde e.V. (MF 1186). Inspired by Diethelm, he started training other operators himself in CW until 2020, where the pandemic hit.
Yannick can be named as a multi-porpose weapon, as he found interest in many modes and likes to discover new modes and meet new people. He enjoys DX-ing and Contesting, especially in CW. Therefore, he is more than happy to be able to join his first DXpedition with the Next Generation DX Team to the Republic of Marshall Islands.
Yannick started law school after graduating from high school in 2021 and is expecting to finish his studies by the end of 2026. He just finished his specialization in tax law and is also working at a well-known German industrial company in the corporate tax department.
