Emir Memic - Braco, E77DX , OE1EMS – a native Bosnian, who nowadays lives and works in Vienna, Austria, with his wife Julia. He is a proud father of two: Maya, 23, and Denni, 21.
Emir has been very well known to Ham Radio Contesting community as an avid contester, ham radio equipment builder, active participant in many ham radio events, educator, and ham radio community builder.
Many contesters can remember numerous of his presentations at Contest University in Montechiari/Italy, Iberradio in Ávila/Spain, HAM Radio Friedrichshafen/Germany and numerous other locations across Europe, where he generously shared his knowledge and experience in contesting, equipment improvements, safety climbing and tower work with the ham radio community.
Emir initially became a ham radio operator at Radio Klub “Kozara” YU4JHI-YZ4X (former Yugoslavia) back in 1987. He started contesting in 1988. The war in Bosnia forced him to relocate to Vienna, Austria, in 1992. Emir attended Technical University Vienna, with major interest in HF communications. He became an active member of OE1XTU, Radio Club of Technical University Vienna. In 1993, he was granted the callsign OE1EMS.
Over the years 1992-2008 he built up several contest stations in Austria, which ever since have been active in all major contests using various callsigns: OE1A, OE1W, OE3A, OE3K, OE4A .
From 1996 to 2004 Emir was very active from the Island of Krk in Croatia. He is also the co-founder of Radio Klub “Rika” 9A1RKA, 9A0R.
In 2007, Emir started his signature project in his hometown: the contest station E7DX. Nowadays, E7DX is one of the most successful teams worldwide and one of the largest stations in Europe. Emir led his team in all big contests year after year. They made several EU wins and records in Single Operator All Bands and Multi Single categories, which are his main passion. Since 2008, Bosnia, represented by E7DX, became a guaranteed multiplier in most contests.
Numerous top five rankings in World and Europe categories.
To date, Emir logged over 1.6 million QSOs.
Emirs close work with Chris 9A5K resulted in the creation of the well-known contest software DXlog.
At Technical University Vienna, he participated in different high frequency communication projects, including education of students and recruiting new ham radio operators.
In addition, Emir is the founder of Austrian Contest Club, Bosnia and Herzegovina Contest Club and an active member of Bavarian Contest Club. He is involved in IARU in C4 Committee via OeVSV (Austrian HAM Radio Society). He is also one of the founding organizers of Istra Contest Conference in Porec, Croatia, one of the biggest contester meetings in Europe.
Emir is involved in some YOTA projects, where he is trying to attract young operators for contesting. For several years, he has been welcoming young operators to his station E7DX and OE1W (mostly for IARU VHF Reg 1 Contest), giving them the opportunity to be part of a big and famous contest teams.
In 2013, Emir started his own Ham Radio related company, focusing on tower and antenna work and consulting, installation, and maintenance of Ham Radio equipment. Emir´s purpose is more than business: He is actively helping the HAM community around the globe to get their antennas, radio, towers, and all related equipment working. He built and serviced towers and antennas for several ham radio stations around the world.
Emir competed in WRTCs in Boston/USA, in 2014 with Ivan OE1DIA, in Wittenberg/Germany, in 2018 with Chris 9A5K and in Bologna, Italy, in 2023 with Vlado E70T.
He operated major contests also from 4O3A, 4U1VIC, 9A1P, ED8X, CN3A, HB0/T94DX, and D4C (D4Z).
Emir also owns 8Q7DX and D4DX call signs and is regularly active from various SOTA and IOTA as well as /MM. His last DX expedition in April 2023 took him to East Timor, where he was active as 4W1A. In total, Emir has been active from more than 50 DXCC countries.
